Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Don Rusnak remains in “shock and disappointment” over controversial residential school comments made by a Canadian senator and is urging her to meet with indigenous representatives.
The chairman of the Liberal indigenous caucus continued to respond to remarks made by Sen. Lynn Beyak earlier this month that the legacy of residential schools has “overshadowed some good things that happened at those schools.”
“It’s shock and disappointment,” Rusnak said Thursday morning, hours before an open letter was released calling her to appear before the indigenous caucus.
“With everything we need to do as parliamentarians and representatives of the people, the attitudes are shocking and disappointing.”
